I originally created this film for my debut solo show "Pleasers and Teasers". The film had its European premiere in February 2022 at the Berlinale Forum Expanded and was nominated for a Teddy award. The 14min video was shown as a 4 channel installation at The Marshall McLuhan Salon of the Embassy of Canada.
VCR'S CHOICE combines digital post-internet video aesthetics with its analogue predecessor, the VCR, and playfully examines the (side) history of media and technology through the lens of queerness and underground culture: The human mind can be a source in times of isolation of entertainment, with a wide range of TV channels from the past, present and future. In VCR'S CHOICE gadgets from the last century are used as gates or levels of imagination. The machines are unlocked through a series of energy exchange processes that trigger emotion-like channel changes. The mind must direct the sexual impulse and practice self-care in order to break free from old ways of thinking and move into new realms.
